A collection of works by GARY HUME, a famous British Young British Artist. 70 works are posted as a retrospective of Hume's work.
British artist Gary Hume (1962-, born in Tenterden, England) is one of the Young British Artists/Britartists who emerged in the 1990s. He is known for his "door paintings", a series of life-size paintings on doors, as well as a series of works that depict various everyday objects using industrial paint with a strong gloss on aluminum plates. It is also famous for its collaborations with fashion brands such as Stella McCartney and Marni.
This book contains many simple line drawings and colorful works. Glossy printing inks are also used, recreating Hume's signature industrial paint work.
When I first saw this book, I felt a strong gap between the impression of the cover and the works inside. Contrary to the strong impression of the thick black band on the cover, Hume's paintings of women and flowers are very soft and organic, and the colors used are cute. I felt betrayed in a good way. Gary Hume is not as well-known as Damien Hirst, who is famous for his formalin-cured beef, a representative Young British Artist, but this book is a must read for those who like organic works. It's a book I want.
